Part 4 Final Gettin’ Punchy with Circles

April 28th, 2008 by Amanda

Isn’t she darling? I received a hula girl card from my friend Pat Ertman and I couldn’t wait to change it up a bit and make it my own for the punch class! Plus, it’s another way for me to bring up the subject I’ve been yapping about all month…HAWAII!!! For all my customers reading this blog, it’s still not too late to put in an order to help me get double points towards earning this trip! So many of you have stepped up with orders and a few workshops…so THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Every little bit helps put me a step further towards my dream vacation goal for my husband and I.  Those double points just make it a little easier so if you haven’t yet placed an order with me this month, it would be much appreciated!

As for the card, since I was using the flowers from the Three for You punch box, I decided to use the inks and other stamps from it, too. One of the changes I made to my card was to give the hula girlie the illusion of arms behind her back. I took the 1 3/8" punch and punched it twice with the Horizontal Slot punch on each side of the center of 1 3/8" punched out Blush Blossom circle. Worked like a charm!! Makes you want to whistle at her figure! :o )

To advertise for this class, I had posted my friend Pat’s card in my customer and downline newsletters. Next thing you know my EXTREMELY TALENTED downline, Samantha Parisi was going crazy making all sorts of other girlie types as knock-offs from the lil’ hula girl! They are so dog-gone darling, you must check them out at www.rubberstampingdiva.com and be prepared to squeal with delight!

Getting Punchy with Circles — Part 3

April 26th, 2008 by Amanda

Lions and Tigers and Bears…Oh My! Aren’t they cute!! This was, of course, the most time consuming of them all and if I were to do it again I’d just design the card differently and give my customers the choice of ONE critter to duplicate! Poor gals butts were going numb! Of course, as soon as I showed them the card they went crazy and wanted to do it..by class end they were FRIED! :o ) Learn from my boo-boos…only one critter at a time unless you enjoy sittin’ for a spell!

Critter Bodies:  1 3/8" circle punch

Critter Ears, Monkey Eye Mask & Lion’s cheeks: 1/2" circle punch

Critter Eyes & Bear Nose: 1/4" circle punch

Bear & Monkey Snouts: 1" circle punch

Tiger and Lion’s Nose: 1/4" square punch cut into 2 triangles

Lion’s Mane: Scallop Circle punch

Getting Punchy with Circles — part 2

April 25th, 2008 by Amanda

This card is really beautiful in person. I wish I could take a picture of it instead of scanning it but my camera’s on the fritz right now. I’ll try to fumble with it over the weekend and post again if I can get it working. This is using the tea bag folding technique — the Dahlia fold. Go to www.cardsandcrafts.freeservers.com/dahlia.html for a cool diagram on how to fold the 8   1 3/8" punched out circles that created the focal point of this card. Here’s what I used:

Card Stock:

  • River Rock
  • Not Quite Navy
  • Old Olive

Stamps:

  • Tres Chic

Accessories:

  • 1 3/8" Circle Punch
  • Porcelain Prints Designer Series 2-sided paper
  • Pretties Kit Hat pin, beads and flat pearl
  • Twill Tape

Ink:

Not Quite Navy Classic Pad

Getting Punchy with Circles!

April 24th, 2008 by Amanda

My Gettin’ Punchy series continued this month with circle punches! We had an even bigger crew of eight this past Monday and it was crazy! :o ) My circle punches that came with the class were BACK ORDERED!! Yikes! But the gals were so sweet and understanding and we got through it! Might have taken a little while longer than it should..but despite the hungry tummies and poor doggies crossing their legs because their pet owners were late getting home, all left with smiles and in excited anticipation of the next class–THE TAB PUNCH (May’s punchy class!)

I’m starting off by showing the easiest card of the four. This picture doesn’t do it justice because the watermelons in person are shiny from Crystal Effects and a sprinkle of glitter. This card used:

Punches:

  • 1 3/8" Square and Circle punches
  • 1 1/4" Square and Circle punches
  • Scallop Cricle punch (for the bite marks)

Card Stock:

  • Green Galore
  • Pink Passion
  • Whisper White
  • Basic Black

Accessories:

  • Black Gingham ribbon
  • Crystal Effects
  • Dazzling Diamonds Glitter

Stamp Set:

  • Stem Sayings

Wonderful You & Wax Paper Resist technique

April 22nd, 2008 by Amanda

Here’s the 3rd card from my Techniques Freaks class last week. This one used the Wax Paper resist technique. Again, I’ve seen mostly bright or feminine colors using the Wonderful You stamp set that is part of April’s Free Wheeling promotion. I wanted to make it completely different from other ideas I’ve seen and thought the Wax Paper resist technique with the leaf would work great for Father’s Day card, too, Thank dad for being such a wonderful influence by giving him this card. Here’s the details:

Stamp Sets: Wonderful You Bundle (with Stems & Silhouttes wheel) and "Thanks" from Live Your Dream stamp set in the Occasions mini catalog.

Card Stock: Basic Black, Creamy Caramel and Whisper White.

Stamp Pads: Basick Black and Creamy Caramel

Accessories:  Basic Black Ink Cartridge, Brayer, Silver Hodge Podge Hardware (from Occasions Mini catalog), Black Grosgrain ribbon, Wax paper.

Wax Paper Resist Technique:

You’ll use some glossy cardstock, wax paper, some ink and a brayer to create this awesome background.

1.    You may choose to stamp on the glossy cardstock as your first step. I choose to randomly stamp an image all over my cardstock first.

2.    Crumple up wax paper, place wax surface down onto the glossy cardstock, place clean piece of scratch paper on top and lightly iron. Don’t press too firmly.

3.    Brayer completely over the cardstock. The ink will resist where the wax paper melted to the glossy cardstock and form a crackle look to your paper.

Pun Fun Rocket with Shaving Cream Technique

April 21st, 2008 by Amanda

Here’s another one of the cards from the Techniques Freaks class. I’ve seen lots of cute cards using this stamp set from the Free Wheeling offer (purchase the stamp set get the Wheel free–see the side bar on my blog main page :o ) ) and most of them have been with bright colors. I wanted this one ot have more of a masculine feel. I thought the shaving cream technique with the gray and black (to give the feel of smoke and ash) and red (for fire) really worked out great!

Stamp Set:  Pun Fun Bundle (with Sweet Stars wheel FOR FREE!!)

Card Stock: Going Gray, Basic Black and Whisper White.

Inks and Ink refills: Basic Black ink and Basic Black, Real Red and Going Gray reinkers

Accessories: Silver Hodge Podge hardware from the Occasions Mini catalog, Versamark ink refill inside a blank jumbo ink cartridge.

Shaving Cream Technique:

1. Fill the bottom of a container with a layer of shaving cream (cheap 99 cent stuff) and spread it out with a spatula.

2. Take a couple of coordinating colors of re-inkers and put drops in a random pattern all over the shaving cream.

3. Take something about the size of a marker to swirl the shaving cream around to mix it up a bit.

4. Now, with a piece of cardstock (card front size) press it into the shaving cream from the center out.

5. Remove the cs and scrape off the extra shaving cream with a spatula. I even dried off the extra bits with a  a paper towel.

6. You have your awesome background!! You can repeat until you don’t like the design you get any longer when the inks and the shaving cream are too blended together.

Technique Freaks class

April 20th, 2008 by Amanda

Sorry it has been such a long gap between postings. I’ve been very busy trying to get bookings, sales, etc., with this double points promo SU! announced on the first! Plus, it was my birthday! Got some mula put away now for that EXPENSIVE camera I’ve been coveting!

Anyway, one of the things I’ve been busy with is a weekly Monday morning class. This Monday’s class was the beginning of Techniques Freaks class and we had so much fun! Six lovely ladies, lots of stamping and laughing–and you call this a job?! :o )

Above is one of the four cards we did with the technique called burnishing. Check back each day this week to see the rest. :o ) Here’s the details on the card:

Stamp set: Bud Basics, Sincere Salutations

Ink: Basic Black, Barely Banana, Lovely Lilac and Mellow Moss

Card Stock: Whisper White, Mellow Moss and Lovely Lilac

Accessories: Sponge Daubers, Styled Silver Hodge Podge Hardware (from the Occasions Mini catalog), and Mellow Moss 1/4" Grosgrain ribbon

Burnishing Technique:

1.    Stamp image on cardstock.  You can use either open images or fine line images.

2.    Cut a Stampin’ Up! sponge into quarters or use a sponge dauber.

3.    Using one quarter of the sponge squeeze the sides of the sponge so the rounded edges are exposed or just use a sponge dauber.

4.    Dab sponge or dauber into your ink pad and apply to cardstock by rubbing several times in a circular motion onto the cardstock.

5.    Some color may go outside of the images, that is OK.

6.  This techniques creates a soft and natural look to your projects.
